Group Art: Lesson In Contrast

We did a lesson in contrast today from the book How To Teach Art To Children, they learned what contrast means (the degree of difference between colors or tones in a piece of art), and made a grid to show high contrast color combinations. I really like this book, they have easy to do and easy to understand lessons. Please forgive my daughters hair, I braided it and she took it out and won't let me comb out the curlies LOL!I have no excuse for this girls hair, other than its curly to begin with and she cut her own bangs awhile back, so its very hard to control! haha! … [Read more...]

Here's our Kindergarten boxes for the day, I didn't take as many pics of my son actually working as our Teeny Tiny Tot was whiney...you can see what we finally did with her at the end of this post.1. Math, he's doing well with this, so its actually fun for him :) As a matter of fact I skipped ahead this week to the next lesson as they have been doing the same thing for awhile now.2.We're starting the letter C today, so here's a new blend card for him. (You can download my blend cards here) I am also using the site word game from Erin's Blog since he's learning the word "the" first I have him build it, then have him write it in the squares. I might use the Word/Build/Write sheet with him next! (Scroll down on Erin's link to see that worksheet)3. A consonants matching poster center box. He'll match the letters to the poster which has velcro on it.4. Sue Patrick Typing Program

Hi,some of you have asked about my typing program. I mentioned that it came free when I purchased the Sue Patrick Workbox System book. The typing program is an additional download, so its not inside the book. Once you purchase the program, she gives you a login to her website. On the left side of her site is a link that says "Basic forms to download-must register book". You then use the login she gave you. If you didn't get a password, send her an email and I'm sure she'll take care of it!On the download area, she has all kinds of things, like schedule strips, box numbers, picture cards like work with mom, etc., grids to help you fill in your boxes, and the typing stuff. The typing section are 3 files towards the bottom of the page. You have to download them all separately.1. Typing Schedule to put in boxes2. Typing practice pages (the ones you see in my binder on the right)3. Typing Visual aids (the keyboard and hands).EDITED: I just received an email from Sue Patrick saying that she … [Read more...]

Underwater Basket Weaving

Tonight was our Keepers at Home group. She loves this group and we've learned some fun things here. Tonight was basket weaving. Praise God that a friend sent the video for us to pre-watch before we started, or i would have been lost! If you're interested, the Basket Master Nancy has a whole series of instructional basket making videos, start at video 1, she is a great teacher. She also has a blog with tons of ideas. I was amazed at how well my daughter caught on to this, she did so well! And now we have good ideas for her Christmas presents too!I've had a lot of questions about where we got the kits, so here is the link to the Keepers At Home Basket Order Page. Ours was the small $5.95 basket, but it looks like they have 2 other's to choose from. Here she is cutting her soaked reeds to the proper length.Next starting the base of the basket. This is by FAR the hardest part. (Well, I'm just thankful I didn't have to strip the tree before starting, check out this guy making Split whiteoak … [Read more...]

Exploring Creation with Astronomy Day 1!

We just started our 7th week of My Father's World Adventures. This week we are building a canoe and were supposed to make bread, but remember we got over zealous last week, so we'll probably skip it this week! Before school starts, we do our Abeka Bible Study, we love this! And then we started our Exploring Creation with Astronomy series. I'm excited to go through this book, its written for elementary students, and has fun activities to go along with each lesson. We do this all before boxes because its a group activity, so I've just found it easier to do it together then break for boxes. I'll probably move the Astronomy to the bottom of the row once we get into activities. I setup work first, then activities last.1. MUS Video and worksheet. This was a difficult concept today, we are learning to 'carry the one'. They also have her split it out so if the number is 84, she has to write 80+4. These are 2 difficult things to do all at once, but we're gonna take our time and get through it.2. … [Read more...]
