Well, its not like us to take 2 field trips in one week, but there was another free Pioneer Days by our house, and since it was a weekend our Daddy could come so we ventured up. First we saw a live buffalo and got to touch the fur.

Then we watched Apple Pressing and got to taste the freshly squeezed juice, yum!

We saw a salamander and some snakes, namely the rattle snake which we are trying to learn to live with in harmony…uh-huh.

Next the girls made corn husk dolls, and got to dress them as well. They turned out cute.

Next we took a wagon ride down to their sod village, where we met up with lots of different people making a homestead.

We went into one of the ‘nicer’ homes of the day, it was a sod home, but the walls were covered with wood slats. Her house was quite cute.

Then we got chased by her turkey.

Next we went to see the blacksmith, everyone got a turn pumping the fire and we learned how to make a J hook.

Next we went to a house where they were making pies. The girls were surprised to see their dance teachers volunteering here.

We met and fed some cows…yuck, they lick the grass from your hand.

Next we were off to school, the year was 1886 and the students had to read, and do arithmetic. I was surprised when my daughter raised her hand to read a passage as well as answer an addition problem!

Next we checked out the Tepee Village, where we met a live Native American who told us stories of trading with other tribes for poles to build their Tepees. They gave the other tribe rights to shoot some of their buffalo.

So that’s it, 2 days of Pioneer living, I think we’ll go watch an episode of “Little House” now…LOL!

  1. Good day! I know this is kinda off topic however
I’d figured I’d ask. Would you be interested in exchanging links or maybe guest writing a
blog article or vice-versa? My website discusses a lot of the same subjects as
yours and I think we could greatly benefit from each other.
If you might be interested feel free to send me an email.
I look forward to hearing from you! Superb blog by the way!

  2. Great site you have here but I was curious about if you knew of any discussion boards that cover the same topics
discussed here? I’d really love to be a part of group where I can get comments from other experienced individuals that share the same interest. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Appreciate it!
