4. Combine dry ingredients and cut in butter.

5. Spread the mixture over the apples.

6. Top with cheese. (Quite frankly, I didn’t like this part, so I’d skip it and just have the crumble!)

7. Bake at 375 Degrees for 45 minutes or until top crust is golden.

8. Serve warm, I think vanilla ice cream is a nice addition to this ;o)

  1. I am so glad you posted this recipe. Yes,it looks yummy but more importantly, there's cheese. You see, my grandfather is a… sigh hard to admit… yankee. And he came to the south with the habit of putting a slice of cheese under the top layer of apple pie. My husband watches me do this in disbelief that anyone else really does it. I keep telling him it's a regional thing. Now we see other areas of our world have this same combination. I can't wait for him to get home from work to show him this picture. Thanks for the smile.

  2. Hi.

I am also South African, and I have never seen cheese on apple pie, another great dessert and possible more popular than apple pie is melk tert, a sort of custard tart. Thanks for all your hard work.
