Workbox Activities for Toddlers

totboxes.jpg

That’s right, the Teeny Tot has her own workboxes and she’s all about having fun new activities in them each day. I know I’ve mentioned this before, but for us, involving our Teeny Tot in our school makes her feel important and also gives her some “special” activities just for her. What’s in the Box for the Teeny Tot this week? Unifix Sudoku and Unifix Cubes (She just matches up the colors on the cards.) Peg Number Boards from Lakeshore Learning Wooden Lacing Beads & Pattern Cards Large Bag Clips and color disks Numbers Puzzle from Wal-Mart (This came in an inexpensive pack of 3 puzzles) Counting Keys by Lakeshore Learning Pattern Blocks and activity cards Great Big Buttons and Shoe Laces Solid Wood Teaser games (I found these at Michael’s craft store in their dollar bin) Today I gave her our Peg Number Boards from Lakeshore Learning. They are foam boards with numbers in them and then the same amount of holes on each card for counting. The … [Read more...]

@Ed_Insights: Velociraptor Dino Digs

IMG_3794.jpg

Oh my heavens were the kids excited to see the Dino Dig Velociraptor kit show up at our house today! The awesome folks at Educational Insights sent it for our review, and I was begged daily to let them try it out. I wanted to wait for a nice day out before starting since it looked like it might be messy.   It was a good plan. It was messy. Very messy. And very FUN! The GeoSafari Dino Dig kits come with everything you need to perform a “life like” excavation of dinosaur fossils. Each kit includes fossils encased in a clay block, an excavation tool, a brush, and a wax block (used to hold the fossil pieces together once completed), and a detailed instruction booklet with more ideas and information. (Just as a side note, these books are written with a secular world view)   I was actually amazed at how long my kids sat and worked on this kit. They were even taking turns which is a miracle! Honestly I was a little concerned that we only received one kit, but as you … [Read more...]

World’s Greatest Artists Vol1: Van Gogh

IMG_4302.jpg

Welcome to our World’s Greatest Artist study on Van Gogh!   Vincent Van Gogh was born in 1853 in the southern Netherlands. He had many jobs, but was most noted for his work as a Dutch post-impressionist painter. He was known for the emotional impact created by the use of brush stroke and intense color in his art work. Van Gogh’s thoughts on art are recorded in hundreds of letters he exchanged with his brother Theo, an art dealer. It was not until after his death in 1890 that his works became famous. Today he is widely regarded as one of history’s greatest painters and important contributor of modern art. This year for art, we are going to study 8 different world famous artists. We have chosen to do art twice a week, and we’ll cover one artist each month. We’re using my World’s Greatest Artists Vol. 1 curriculum, which you can download FREE, just click on the image below!   We took a few lessons to read through the Vincent Van Gogh World’s … [Read more...]

Teeny Tot Tuesday

IMG_4263.jpg

Welcome to Teeny Tot Tuesday! This week I wasn’t as organized as I like to be, so I was grabbing at things kind of randomly this week. The Teeny Tot didn’t seem to care as long as it looked fun she was game. This is a wooden number puzzle I purchased from Target a few years back. I couldn’t find the exact link for you, but found one similar on Amazon.   Whenever possible we let her participate in our group activities. Here she is adding the state bird to our Road Trip USA animal wall.   Rush Hour Jr.: The Teeny Tot pulled this game out herself. Although she doesn’t exactly play it by the rules, she loves to figure out how to get all the cars on the board. I figure it’s like a 3-D puzzle for her right now, some day she’ll learn that it has another purpose!   Small Spaces: This game is an oldie, but a goodie! I used an empty plastic toddler snack jar and punched holes in the top with my hole punch. Then handed her a handful of … [Read more...]

Learning Fun With Felt Giveaway

IMG_3730.jpg

We received a couple of Learning Fun With Felt kits today from Betty Luken, and the kids totally love them! As soon as they got here, they started playing. I actually had to set a timer so they could take turns due to high demand. They sent us the Under The Sea and the Forest Camping Adventure sets to review, if you don’t like these they have a wide variety of themes to choose from!   Once the kids got over playing with them, I had them use the sets to tell a story. It was great to hear all of the creative things they came up with while telling what happened!   Each set comes with a felt board, along with several matching pieces. They also come in a plastic carrying case which is perfect for storage and keeping all of the felt pieces from getting lost!   I was surprised at how long they played with the kits, and I look forward to using them for creative story telling and just plain fun in the future! Can't wait for the giveaway?  … [Read more...]
