In honor of Clara…

Grandmas100bday.jpg

It is with a sad heart I write today. You see, an amazing woman, my grandma, passed away yesterday morning. She was 101 years old, and would’ve been 102 this May 18. This is my grandma and me at her 100th birthday party two years ago. She was doing quite well and enjoyed all of the attention of the day. 101 is quite a long time to live these days, and I think of all of the amazing things she witnessed and lived through. Here is just a small list of things that my grandmother has lived through: Wages in 1914 were just $5/9 hour work day at the Ford Motor Company. Milk was $0.32, Bread was $0.06/loaf, and eggs were $0.30/dozen. In 1915 Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas A. Watson conducted the first telephone conversation. World War I The Great Depression World War II Korean War Vietnam War Cold War Atomic Bomb First man into space. Manned landing on the moon. The Civil Rights Movement. Robotic landings on Mars. Space telescopes. Commercial air … [Read more...]

Happy New Year 2015!

happynewyear_2015.jpg

Happy New Year! I know I say this every year, but I really just can’t believe 2014 is gone already! I think I lost track of time somewhere around August…which seems to happen every year…go figure… I suppose it could be because that’s when school starts, and it’s also my busiest blogging month as far as orders and emails from you all. Sports start back up, and it’s also the time of year that I’m knee-deep in working on our church women’s retreat. So for me, it all hits at once, then snowballs from there. And bam! Before I know it, another year has passed! I hope you all had a great year, and am praying for an even better one in 2015. For us, 2014 brought some not so great health news for our families, but we’re thankful that God is working and everyone is currently doing well.   What’s Happening? This year Strawberry Shortcake will turn 12, Turbo will turn 11, Tinker Bell will turn 9, and the Teeny Tot, who will be 7 this year, has agreed to stay 5 forever to … [Read more...]

I pray that you have a blessed time with friends and family this season and that you keep Jesus the center of all festivities! We’ve actually been sick last week, but thankfully everyone is well now and Christmas is ON! We’ll be heading up to my parents home tonight to celebrate with my family. Then tomorrow we’ll go over to celebrate with Jason’s family. We look forward to seeing everyone and spending time together, enjoying amazing food, fun presents, and great fellowship as we celebrate the birth of our Savior! I thought it would be fun to leave you all with a festive video so you can see what it’s like around our house this time of year. And stick around until the end for a special message from … [Read more...]

Happy Easter 2012!

He-is-risen-wallpaper.jpg

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. … [Read more...]

Child Training Bible Giveaway

ctb

I have a wonderful giveaway for you today! I’m sure you’ve already heard of it, and I have to say I was really excited when the creators of the Child Training Bible asked me to review their product!   So what is the Child Training Bible? It’s a wonderful way to quickly refer to scripture to discipline, and encourage your children! There is a handy key that goes in the front, so you can quickly find scriptures that go along with your most current issue. Simply turn to the page with the matching colored tab, and find the highlighted scripture.   I have a few set scriptures that I tend to go for, but this is so much more! It starts off showing you the scripture that deals with your child’s specific issue, then goes on into discussing how they can correct that issue.   It does take a little bit to go through and mark all of the scriptures, but they’ve outlined all of the scriptures in order, so it goes quite quickly. And, I really have to … [Read more...]

End of Summer Bash!

IMG_3004.jpg

Well, the time has come for summer to end and school to start! Actually these pics are a little late in coming, we started school back up on August 15th, but I still wanted to share. You know…since I went to the trouble to put together this cute little platter of goodies and all. And since once I brought it out it was immediately demolished.   But wasn’t it cute to start out with? We celebrated the end of summer with smores and neighbors. It was a nice night and I think a great way to end our summer fun!   And since these happy faces ensued, I guess it was all worth it! Not to mention Mama got to sit back and relax while Daddy roasted her the P E R F E C T marshmallow! All toasty and golden….yummmm!   So, farewell  ye summer…and hello fall! School is ON! How did you all celebrate the close of summer in your neck of the woods? I’d love to hear if anyone has end of summer or beginning of school traditions! … [Read more...]

The Jesse Tree

Each year we take the month of December off of our regular curriculum to focus on the birth of our Savior! As we began our 'Christmas School' this year, I found a great website for making a Jesse Tree. Its a fun, hands on way to retell the story of the family tree of Jesus! You can download the ornaments as well as daily lessons for The Jesse Tree Here. (Just scroll down to the bottom for reflections(lessons) and Ornament downloads.) Here is a sample of what your tree can look like. Some people use real trees and hang the ornaments on it. I'm planning on printing off the ornaments then either laminating them, or gluing them onto felt for durability. here's a picture as we start our tree this year: I also found this great book and we read a story from it each night: The Jesse Tree I also found a fun list of Advent ideas from Teaching Mom. Just click on the calendar day you are on and you'll find TONS of ideas for that day! (Note: This is the 2008 calendar, but the … [Read more...]
