Kid friendly Green Smoothie Recipe

IMG_0603web.jpg

Hi everyone! I’ve posted several of our smoothie recipes before, and today I wanted to share my kid friendly Green Smoothie recipe! We’re always experimenting with smoothies here, and we drink them almost every morning. Turbo is our resident smoothie expert, and since we drink them frequently he’s been working out a recipe that tastes both great for kids and makes mama happy! This recipe is a nice bright green color which I’ve found helps when convincing kids to drink something that is good for them.   So let’s get started shall we?   Ingredients: 2 cups Fresh spinach leaves 2 cups water 3 cups combination of frozen mango & pineapple chunks 1 banana, peeled Optional: 1/2 lemon The above recipe is one we’ve decided is our favorite, but really you can make your own combination. Here is a handy chart to help you out. If you’re trying to get kids to drink these, I recommend starting out with the ratio below. Having more fruit than … [Read more...]

Cucumber, Lemon & Mint Detox H2O Recipe

IMG_9939web.jpg

Good morning! With the weather starting to warm up a little, the realization that I’ll be wearing shorts is starting to creep up on me! With our recent move, general school craziness, and everything else going on in our lives I haven’t been eating as healthy as I would like to. I’m definitely ready to get my heath back on track and one of the best ways to do that is to start off with a delicious and refreshing detox water!   Why Detox Water? We all know that water is beneficial for our bodies, and a necessity to our good health. But it’s also a great way to flush out toxins, and it helps reduce bloating and makes you feel better all around. This particular recipe is like a double detoxifying beverage because of it’s yummy ingredients! Lemon: Not only is lemon known for it’s antibacterial, antiviral, and immune-boosting powers. But it’s also a powerful detoxifying cleanse for your liver and a digestive aid as well. It helps cleanse and alkaline the body. If … [Read more...]

Healthy Green Smoothie Recipe

IMG_8937web.jpg

Hello everyone! I have a yummy and healthy smoothie recipe for you today! I’ve been having fun experimenting with the Vitamix we received for Christmas. I’m not gonna lie, some things taste a little “too natural” for me, like…um…eating grass. But this one seems to work well for my taste buds and is fairly healthy so I thought I would share it! Ingredients: 1 cup ice cubes 1 cup water 1 handful baby spinach leaves 1 handful frozen strawberries 1 handful frozen bananas 1 orange or about 2 large tablespoons of orange juice concentrate Method: Yeah, so just dump it all into your Vitamix and turn it up to high! I’m not sure a regular blender would mix the spinach enough, but if you have a good one it’s worth a try! And you’ll end up with something like this, don’t be afraid of the light green color. It’s just the spinach, but the taste is still nice and fruity from the oranges. And you know you’re getting some good vitamins in this smoothie … [Read more...]

Healthy Snacks for Kids

IMG_7846web_thumb.jpg

I don’t know about you all, but coming up with snacks on the fly is something I am not great at. Unfortunately if left un-attended my kids will grab something non-healthy, or make a gigantic mess with the contents of my pantry. So out of necessity, I’ve come up with an easy way to store all of our snacks, while at the same time providing quick and hopefully healthier snacks for them. First off I should mention that we do two snack times per day. Typically 10:30am and 3:00pm are our standard snack times. Setting these times has been so helpful, the kids all know when snack time is and so they don’t ask for snacks all day long anymore. Hallelujah and amen! So here are some of our snack ideas as well as how we store them! Fruit: Of course fruit is one of my number one snack go-to’s. I do my best to keep a variety of fruit on hand, it’s usually sitting right on the counter so they can grab it and go. Here are some things you’ll find in our fruit bowl (depending on the … [Read more...]

Healthy Smoothie Popsicle Recipe

IMG_6912web.jpg

Welcome to my Summer Boredom Busters activities for kids! For July I thought it would be fun to post some ideas to keep your kiddos happy and whining to a minimum! Today, I have a fun variation to our daily smoothie recipes…freeze them! That’s right, I just made our regular smoothie recipe and added a little extra orange juice to them to make them into yummy and healthy summer popsicles!  The above Popsicle were done in a Popsicle mold I found in the $1 section at Target. Ingredients: 1 banana (frozen is better, but I will work at room temp.) 2 cups frozen strawberries (Again, room temp is okay) 1 cup orange juice (Add more as needed until mixture is liquid enough to pour into molds) 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt (We prefer frozen yogurt) 1/2 cup orange juice Optional: 2-3 teaspoons honey to taste (The plain fruit can be a bit sour, but the orange juice helps with this, so try it before adding honey) These popsicles were made in a cake-pop silicone mold … [Read more...]

Healthy Smoothie Recipes

I always get a lot of questions regarding my yummy smoothie recipe since we make it almost daily in my monthly meal plans for breakfast. Due to its popularity I thought I’d finally give the smoothie it’s own post!   We make these almost daily, especially in the summer months when fruit is so tasty and refreshing! Smoothies are a healthy and yummy way to start your day, and my kiddos love them. Now that Strawberry Shortcake knows how to make them, she likes to experiment with whatever we have on hand. Here is our basic smoothie recipe, along with some of our favorite variations. My Smoothie Recipe: Ingredients: 1 banana (frozen is better, but I will work at room temp.) 2 cups frozen strawberries (Again, room temp is okay) 1 cup milk 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt (We prefer frozen yogurt) 1/2 cup orange juice Optional: 2-3 teaspoons honey to taste (The plain fruit can be a bit sour, but the orange juice helps with this, so try it before adding … [Read more...]
