Hey guys! I have another fun “What’s in the Workbox” post for you today. I have posted my 1st grade curriculum before, but I had requests for a  video like I made for our other grade levels. So let’s take a peek into her workboxes to see what she’s got going on this year!

Just to recap, Miss Lady Bug is in 1st grade this year. Her schedule is a little bit full because I couldn’t decide between a couple of things so I’m making her do it all. But so far she’s handling it well. The only thing I’ve officially removed from her list is typing. She just isn’t ready for it, though she loves to do it and begs me constantly.

And that’s all that is in her daily workbox drawers. Here are a few of the things we do that aren’t stored in her boxes:

For anyone with questions on our school room or workbox drawers, you can check out our school room setup here. Links to all of furniture and supplies are there to help you out.

You can also see a check out this video I did a while back on our workboxes! We’ve stuck with the Ikea drawer units since they fit better in our room right now.

Keep in mind all homeschools are a little bit different. What we’re using might not work for your family or your students. So just go with what works best for you and your kiddos! But if you have questions specifically regarding what we are using, there are links in this post to help you out! Feel free to email me if you have questions that I didn’t address!

And make sure to check out my Homeschooling 101 book if you’re just getting started and need help finding curriculum, creating lesson plans, scheduling your day, organizing your home, and more!

  1. Hi Erica,
Thank you for this video tour. You introduced Vocabulary Workshop on your blog before. I ended up inquiring more about Sadlier Oxford products, after seeing it. I love their products and feel that they are reasonably priced. I also use Vocabulary Workshop for grade 1 & 3. I wish the online components would offer more sentence examples to go along with the workbook. I am disappointed in the online components for VW, and do find it lacking. I did not purchase teachers manuels for the VW, to save cost. I don’t find the TM’s necessary. What I do love is their phonics. The phonics curriculum is for grades k-3 and is the best curriculum I have ever came across.

Thank you for these video tours, they have introduced me to new curriculum products like Sadlier Oxford which are not so easy to discover as a homeschooler without someone else who is paving the way!

    Thanks,
    Karen

  2. I love seeing what other homeschool moms are doing. It gives so much inspiration! Thanks for sharing! Also, I just wanted to stop in and let you know that I nominated you for the blogger recognition award! You’ve probably been nominated for this a million times before, but I wanted to let you know I think your blog is awesome and deserves some recognition for it! 😉 Thanks for all of your tips!

You can read more about the award and your nomination here: http://www.chaoticblisshomeschooling.com/2015/10/06/blogger-recognition-award

  3. Thanks for this post, Erica. We have been using a similar work box system for a few years now and find it to be very effective, especially with multiple learners. I love that you are so organized! It always makes things less stressful in our house. I know you’re super busy and can’t respond to every email, but I was hoping to share something with you, if you are interested. Thanks.

  4. This is so helpful! It’s so nice to see what someone who has been homeschooling for so long actually uses! If you are looking for a blog post idea, I’ve got one (or a series of posts). After using all of the different curriculums you have tried, what you know put together for each subject (and/or unit studies) in each Elementary grade? (I assume you’d do Letter of the Week & K4/5, but what about 1st- 5th grades?). I’m having g a hard time pairing all of the subjects and not really knowing what my children should learn, when (I can’t find specific guidelines for Cali.).
