Taking a few days off…

beach.jpg

Hi everyone!  While I won’t quite be in the serene setting above, I am going to take a couple days off this week for a family wedding! We hope to see lots of family and friends as well.  And I’m seriously considering going sans technology! I’ll probably bring along my iPad so I can do a little reading, but I don’t count that as online time ha ha! Anyhoo…I thought I might pass on a little info the event you are wondering why you haven’t heard back from me via email… Did you email me? If you have emailed me I won’t be responding until Monday April 15th, and I will do my best to get back to you all! Did you order a product? If you ordered a downloadable product you should have received a welcome email from me with a password to login to your account when you purchased the items. If you didn't get it, just go to my store: http://store.confessionsofahomeschooler.com then click 'login' in the top right corner. From there, you'll see a 'forgot password' link so you can … [Read more...]

Our Family Mission Statement 2012

keepcalm.jpg

I’ve seen this statement all over lately, and at this point, I’m taking it as a sign and adopting it as my 2012 motto!  It was either this one, or the “Keep calm and eat cupcakes” poster. And that just wouldn’t jive with my weight watchers plan. Did you know the poster was first created back in 1939 by the British government at the beginning of WWII to raise the morale of the British public in the event of an invasion?  In light of the chaos a homeschooling family can face, I thought it was a perfect motto for the year! I love the crown on this one as well because it reminds me to keep my focus on my King and that if I’m walking in the Spirit I can remain calm! It’s when I start walking in my flesh that sparks start to fly. Awhile back I memorized James 1:20 “for the wrath of man [mom] does not produce the righteousness of God”. (If you haven’t memorized this verse yet, I challenge you to try it! I think  you’ll find that God is good to pop this verse into your head at … [Read more...]

Happy Independence Day America!

I hope you are all having a wonderful and safe holiday with friends and family! I am also taking a break to be with loved ones, having some yummy BBQ, talking my Teeny Tot through another year of giant overhead explosions, and enjoying squeals from the kids as each one lights up the night sky with freedom! Thank you to all of our armed forces that ensure our safety on a daily basis, and to our founding forefathers who built this country on the values we hold dear. Happy Independence Day America! … [Read more...]

Happy 7th Birthday My Sweet Boy!

I can’t believe you are 7 years old today, this very minute! It seems like just yesterday I was holding a 5 pound sweet baby boy in my arms! And today, you are such an awesome blessing to our family. You’re a wonderful brother and just an awesome dude in general. You’re laugh is contagious, and I love that even at 7 years old you’re still willing to cuddle with your mama. I’m so thankful that God has blessed us with your presence, I can’t imagine a more perfect fit for our family. My favorite gift for you this year was the book your big sister gave you. “The Story of You”….she read it to you after everyone left and I have to say that I had a tear in my eye. She commended you for being the best brother ever and talked about how great you are at everything you do! And she’s right! We couldn’t love you more! And don’t worry sweet baby, despite what your daddy says, you’re welcome to live with us forever ;o) Love your Mama. P.S. Yes, I did make your cake…yes it did take awhile…and yes it … [Read more...]

Happy Mother’s Day!

I wanted to take a moment today to say “Thank You” to my awesome mom and mother-in-law! You are both so wonderful and caring, and the kids couldn’t love you more! Actually, I think they love you more than me! Probably because you bribe them with mints and let them have popsicles for breakfast. ;o) We are truly honored and blessed to have you both in our lives! And quite frankly, my sanity would be severely in question if it weren’t for your help and support! I hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day and thank you from the bottom of my heart, for being there, for encouraging us, and for loving us. I pray you have a wonderful day as we celebrate this time with you! … [Read more...]

Happy Birthday to my Baby!

I can’t even believe my sweet little baby is 2 years old today! She’s been such a blessing to us and though I was slightly, um…freaked out…when we found out we were having a 4th child, I wouldn’t trade it for the world! She’s the light of our hearts and house and we love her! Happy birthday Chubby Bubba a.k.a. Teeny Tiny Tot :o) I think the more kids you have and the older you get the faster the years fly by! I guess we’re officially into Tot School now… … [Read more...]

Happy Birthday To Me!

Okay, since I’ve posted on all of my kid’s birthdays, I felt like I should post on my own. Now, I’m definitely not telling you all which birthday it is, but let’s just say it’s a big one and I’m trying to avoid it. ‘Nuff said. But, in attempt to be a good sport, I thought I’d share some things about myself that you might not know, so here goes: 1. I’d give up chocolate, but I’m no quitter! 2. I never thought I’d homeschool…as a matter of fact, I think the words “I’d NEVER homeschool” actually came out of my mouth at one point. 3. I swore I’d never drive a mini-van (Ahem, did any of you participate in last year’s Mini-Van Express with us?) 4. I swore I’d never marry anyone younger than me or from my hometown. (Let me introduce my wonderful husband, who happens to be 5 yrs younger than me and, yep, you guessed it from my hometown! We actually went to the same high school, but due to the age difference we never met. And don't think I can't hear you laughing because I can.) 5. I’m … [Read more...]

Water Safety Awareness & Guilt

I’ll never forget the day my son almost drowned. It was exactly 1 year ago from today. We had been at a private swimming pool, there were 4 adults there that day along with my 4 children. Somehow when there are more adults around, I feel more comfortable, but really I think everyone assumes someone else is watching. (This photo taken 7/7/2010 at his first swim lesson for this year, he did amazing, much better than I did actually, I was on the edge of my seat the entire lesson.) We were getting ready to leave the pool that day and everyone was getting out. My son was playing on the steps and I was changing the baby’s clothes and not paying attention. The next thing I realized my daughter was yelling “MOM! MOM!” she was also yelling her brother’s name. When I looked up, she had her floaty in one arm and our son in the other and was swimming as fast as she could back to the edge. Thankfully my mom was quick to yank him out but he was already blue and non-responsive. My heart dropped … [Read more...]
