Room Tour

I recently decided that my sewing space needed an update. While I’ve loved my previous layout, I always find inspiration in moving things around and trying something new. This time I enlisted the help of chat GPT to help me figure out a new layout for my space. In hindsight, I should have been more specific on the measurements of all of my furniture and my room size. Instead, I took a photo of my room and asked it to make me a new layout that might be more functional. Here’s the photo I uploaded…

This is my previous layout. While I loved the open feeling, I really wanted to get more use out of my table space. I have my machine on the left side and so it left only half of my table as usable space.

I added a little input oh my goals and here’s what chat came back with…

While the results weren’t exactly accurate, it did give me a few ideas! I decided to try my large table in the middle of the room. I was definitely hesitant because my room is only about 13′ x 14′. And my table is about 46″ x 78″ which means that it takes up a significant amount of my space! It’s been about a month, and so far I’m actually really enjoying the space.

One of my criteria was that my desk faced the windows. Unfortunately, I work at my computer more than I sew, and I like being able to see outside. I also like having my sewing machine near my computer because I’m frequently sewing and editing patterns at the same time. Being able to go back and forth between the two is nice. I also wanted my machine near my ironing board to help speed things up for me when sewing. That said, it might be better to have it on the right side of my machine, but I think the overall layout works better this way.

As for my table…It’s so nice to be able to have the entire table free to use for cutting, laying out fabrics, arranging blocks, and generally having enough space to work. I think I’m going to really enjoy having the extra working space! Even though it’s a little tight on the back side of the table, I’ve found I have plenty of room to sew and work.

I kept my Pink Sherpa chair in the room as well, even though it’s a bit tight in the corner. I love having a chair in here. My kids and husband all come and sit throughout the day to chat with me and I love having a little company! I originally wanted the chair to sit in to cross stitch, but honestly I rarely use it. It’s mostly just for company.

The last thing I added to my room was a cozy pink rug under my main table. It really softens the room and also gives me something comfy to stand on when I’m spending time at the cutting table. I love the warm touch it gives and I think the colors will go nicely with my Christmas decor as well!
