Say What!?

Did you say “August”?

O.M.G! Seriously?

I had so many grand plans for summer.

Being a dutiful homeschooler, I even got a bunch of curriculum to help keep my kids busy and educated.

Which would’ve been nice if we’d been home to actually use it.

Which we weren’t.

So we didn’t.

And now school’s getting ready to start.

I want to know what happened to my summer?

Did anyone see it?

Because I blinked the other day, and I think I must’ve missed it!

Anyhoo…

I honestly can’t believe I’m posting this today, but yes it’s time for an August meal plan!

    1. Hi Elise,
No I actually shop each week because things like produce and such go bad. But the plan is for the month so I have meals planned out. I just take my list and get any thing I need to complete the meals for each week.

      1. Does this help you stay on budget? I just planned out my first month’s plan for August too…I did shop once a month but I go back in two weeks to restock on produce and bread. I only plan 5 dinners a week though. I’m not sure we could afford 7 dinners a week and have meat at all of them. How do you do it? Suggestions?

        1. Yes, I normally try to stick to what is on my list, so it does help me save money. If I don’t have a plan I tend to buy a bunch of random things, then have a hard time putting them together, and they end up going to waste. For our meat we actually get it from my husband’s family farm, so I don’t buy meat from the grocery store. That helps too.

  1. Thanks for the Ideas! I was looking through past menus after I discovered this months gem, so I could get a few more ideas to swap out for meals my family, and I noticed all your months are nearly identical. 🙁 It looks like some great recipes, and I cant wait to try what works for us out! (I’m excited for the breakfast and snack ideas for my kids, since I cook breakfast every morning!) Thanks for the great site!

  2. another money saving tip i use is to make your own yogurt which is so easy and cost much less, or buy in bulk or big amounts and freeze into popsicle molds! its more natural and less expensive than gogurts, and the kids can help adding their own fruits and things..give it a try tell me what you think! (p.s. my kids think they are getting an almost ice cream like treat when i pop those babies out of the freezer during snack time 😉

    1. also if your worried about the mess for little hands i suggest taking an oatmeal lid or something similar cut a slice in the middle for the pop handle to go thru and voila! drips get caught on “pop tray”

  3. Hello!
I am new to your site and I am looking into starting the meal planning process for my family. Thank you for your great visual of how you break down your meals each day for your family. I noticed that you only have dinners down for Saturdays and Sundays. Does this mean you eat the other meals out those days or not eat at home? Thank you.

    1. Hi Heather,
No, it’s just that weekends are a little hectic around here so I don’t plan a big meal for those days. We normally end up making sandwiches or something for lunch, and cereal, or sometimes I cook a big breakfast on the weekends.
