So after my husband, who is normally the source of my clutter problem, told me that he thought our homeschool ‘stuff’ was getting too cluttered, I decided I’d better do something drastic. So yesterday after school was done, I told everyone “grab your desks kids, we’re movin!”and I proceeded to move the entire school room into our office space. This was no easy task mind you and at one point my 2nd grader said “Mom, I think we better call Daddy”. (She clearly has no faith in me!)

If you don’t know me at all, please know this, I can walk into a room to put away a book and come out 2 hours later having re-arranged, organized, and purged it of any un-necessary clutter. Its just who I am, sorry honey, but you knew this long ago. So when you leave for work in the morning, its entirely possible that you’ll walk into a completely different house when you get home, like say…yesterday.

With all that being said, I’m VERY happy with the results! I managed to contain ALL (minus art supplies which are still in kitchen cupboards) my homeschool stuff into one room of the house, the office. And, here’s the kicker, it has nice double doors on it that can be closed! Praise God!

Here are our workboxes, I put all the desks along the window wall since they fit so nicely.

Here’s the bookshelf wall, it houses all of our games, manipulatives, calendar, word jail, and the famous animal poster! (I got it at Costco for about $8) Here’s a closeup of the calendar. I use this for learning to count, days of the week, months of the year, and if you look close, you’ll see a pattern we make each day using colorful plastic chain links.

Here is the armoir I’m using for storage, I have all my workbox idea stuff, curriculum books, puzzles, games, etc in this thing.

Our whiteboard area, with computer table and piano and alphabet tree.

The reading area:

And last but not least…the blessed doors that will serve to contain and hide all the craziness!

I really like this new setup and so do the kids. Its like we have an actual classroom now. So all I really need is a little bell to ring to signify the beginning of our day!

  1. We are twins-separated at birth. I have tamed my need to rearrange/organize and purge but at times-it rears it's necessary head and I go crazy. If you think about it tho-kids in PS and Priv. S get a new room just about every year..so why shouldn't ours? Change can be refreshing and revitalizing. More power to ya. Love the layout/look. We stole my beloved library area but two things are bad about it. One-it is the first room you see upon entering the front door (if you turn your head slightly) and 2: there are no doors to hide it. That is the part that stinks. But well, one has to work with what they have. great job-when you get another urge-I have some closets/drawers and living space that can use a wee bit of a makeover-I will supply the pizza/drinks and desserts. :0)Blessings!

  2. I love your homeschool room. I am constantly rearranging ours!! Just when I like where it is….a better idea comes into my head. Are you using an all in one curriculum for 2nd grade or did you put your own thing together? I'm having fun looking around your blog…hope you don't mind 🙂

  3. Of course I don't mind!Well, don’t laugh but I use Abeka 2nd grade mixed with My Father’s World Adventures! I like the fun aspect of MFW, but she really needed extra phonics practice and reading practice and MFW just wasn’t cutting it, so I ended up adding in Abeka stuff too! I know most people who like MFW do NOT like Abeka, but it works for us, so oh well! LOL!

  4. Hi, Thanks for the post… we are making over our school room and wondering where you got the silver 10 drawer units that you have for each kid. Do you remember where you got them?

  5. Wow! I love, love, love your room! Our playroom is a playroom/school room. My son is 3 and daughter will be 2 soon. She is learning how to put things back and not touch certain things. So I am totally thinking about this summer just making the room a school room and their rooms were they keep their toys. I love the workboxes and I looked on Joann's website and it looks like they are on sale for 48.96. Oh, and I love your desks where did you get those????? Love your room!:))))

  6. Hi Felicia,I got my desks at a church school closing, so I’m probably not much help there! Other than to say to look on craig’s list in your area for student desk and see if anything comes up. That’s how I found these, they advertised the school sale. It was worth it, they were only $5/each!
