Scratch and Sketch Books
We recently got our hands on some of these fun Scratch and Sketch books! These super cute books come with a small blurb about each item and a drawing for the kids to copy if they so choose. The pages are black and each book comes with a wooden stylus used to ‘scratch’ the image into the black coating. Of course they each have a different fun background that will show through as you draw the picture. Here are some of our creations: This book is a fun art addition to our workboxes whenever we have an open spot! 2010 Geography Fair
Thanks to some of my wonderful blog readers we were able to come up with the coolest boards for our Geography Fair this year! My daughter did China, she read a wonderful report and presented her Great wall of China display. (Her outfit came from a lovely friend of mine, I realize it’s a little more Japanese, but don’t tell her that!) My son did his report on Japan, he was a total super star. His sister sat quietly by incase he needed help with bigger words, and after the morning practice we did I was slightly concerned for the audience. But it’s so cool when you get to see your kids just bring it to the table when the pressures on! He did better than I could’ve hoped and even pushed his sister away letting her know he didn’t need her help. You can’t tell because he’s in front of them, but thanks to my mom he had real Samurai Swords to show off, of course this was his favorite part of the display! Expedition Earth: Germany
Guten Tag and welcome to our week on Germany! We always start off by stamping our passports and locating our new country on the World Map. Character Study: Humility
Welcome to my 5th Character Study based on Humility (vs. Shifting Blame & Making Excuses.) (Click on the image or link below to download a pdf of this study.) A Character study: Humility Other books required for this study: The Bible (any version will do!) Each day you will learn a verse, read a story where this sin is illustrated, then discuss the blessings of obedience and consequences of disobedience. I encourage discussion with your children on ways they can help one another to stay free from this sin. Putting these ideas into practice on a daily basis will help them to become habit. Our daily/weekly "Challenge" for this week: "confess our sins instead of trying to cover them up by blaming others". I also make a sticker sheet and anyone caught making good choices, that’s right “caught making good choices” gets a sticker. The Gingerbread Disaster
Ever start one of those projects and silently cry “Why, oh why did we do this? If only we could go back in time 10 minutes ago when my kitchen was spotless and I’d just mopped…why???” Then you remember “oh yeah, because my mom brought up gingerbread kits for my kids and started the mess while I was out shopping because she thought it would be fun.” Every year we make these houses, trains, trees oh my! And EVERY year we vow to make the formation of the object and allow it to dry BEFORE letting the kids decorate. And every year we forget to do that and end up with a house with a roof that slides off and a train that leans like the Tower of Pisa. This year we had the added pleasure of a small, okay large, icing snafu which resulted in white icing all over, and I mean ALL OVER my kitchen. I think at one point I decided we were going to have to throw out my kitchen table and bring in the big sander for the floor. Expedition Earth: Greece
γεια σου (pronounced yah-soo) and welcome to our Expedition Earth week on Greece! We had so much fun with our Geography Curriculum learning about Greece!
