I recently had the pleasure of reviewing See The Light: Art Class DVD’s. I have to say I really like this program!

Each DVD includes step by step art tutorials, for any given subject. I like that it is a video, so we could easily stop it, rewind if necessary and continue on when we were ready. It is also really helpful to see how to do each task. The cool part is you really only need a pencil, paper, colored pencils, and colored chalk and you’re ready to go!

I reviewed the first DVD in the series “Art Class Volume 1: Lessons 1-4” ($14.99). This DVD included: Tools of the Trade, It all Starts with a Line, Contours & Composition, and Draw What you See, and a bonus lesson: Chalk-It-Easy.

The first DVD was fairly basic, so I’d really like to get more and see how the rest of the lessons go. The teacher also ads in a bit of Art History and Biblical Truth into each lesson. My daughter didn’t love that part, since we already do Bible time each day, she kept saying “I already know this…”. So I did let her skip it and get on to the lesson, she was eager to get drawing. We did listen to some of it though, and I really do think it is a nice addition to the class.

Each session is about 15 minutes, and the complete 1 Year Art Class set has 36 art lessons (4 per disc). Topics covered include:

  • Fundamental elements of drawing a line
  • Understanding composition
  • Identifying Shapes
  • Tone
  • Shade
  • Value
  • and more!

What’s the cost?

  • Individual DVD’s: $14.99
  • Full Year Art Class: $99.00
  • They offer many other items as well, you can see a full list of products here.

I also won See The Light: The Gift of Love DVD from Mama Jenn’s blog awhile back and we loved that one as well! Our favorite lesson was how to make “Fancy” lettering (that’s my word, I’m sure there’s a more official term). After drawing a basic word “REJOICE” she showed how to make the letters more visually appealing. They drew a small picture of baby Jesus in the center of the “O”, then a big starburst shining down onto the word.
