  1. Hi Erica,

Canadian Thanksgiving was celebrated back on the 2nd Monday in October, but I used the book “Three Young Pilgrims” by Cheryl Harness (Aladdin Picture Books: New York, 1992) to teach about US Thanksgiving and why the holidays are different. The book has wonderful ilustrations and Monkey loved being able to look at the cutaways of the ships. It is about the Allerton family and their arrival on the Mayflower and their first year in the New World. The book is available through Amazon for under $8 new and well under $5 used.

We topped it off by using the log cabin printables from the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency (http://www.state.il.us/hpa/ps/construct_mainstreet.htm#BYOL) to build a village. It was perhaps a tad challenging for Grade 1 fingers bu we had older visitors that weekend and the 8 and 10 year olds loved it.

Thanks again for putting together a series of really fun printables. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving – we are all so Blessed.

  2. This is exactly what I needed for today, what a blessing to wake up to your email! I immediately showed it to my husband and am now trying to get the downloads… which are not so sure they want to come :-). I’ll keep trying though, I’m sure there’s a lot of other people out there trying to get them as well. Thank you so much!
