Happy Monday everyone! Today I have a fun giveaway for you. It’s the Magnetic Elapsed Time Set by Learning Resources. This fun tool is an easy way to help students understand how time progresses.

I personally like the segmented timeline that comes with it to help the counting process. Sometimes the circular shape of the clock can be confusing I think, so it’s nice to have it in this format as well.

What are the details?

  • The Magnetic Elapsed Time Set is $24.99
  • The set includes 2 magnetic clocks with repositionable hands, and a 24-hour timeline with β€œstart” and β€œend” labels, and removable guide numbers.
  • The clocks are 10”

How do we use this?

I put them up on our magnetic white board as shown above and then set the clocks to different times. Next I have Tinker Bell position the β€œstart” and β€œend” markers on the timeline strip. Together we count the time between the markers to see how much time has elapsed between the two clocks.

We also do this in reverse, I will set the β€œstart” and β€œend” markers on the timeline, then Tinker Bell will place the hands in the correct position on the circular clock faces. Next we count the time going around the clock face and then the strip to verify.

What do we think?

I like this display, it really helps practice how to read a clock for younger kids, and also helps illustrate how we count the passing of time. It is fairly large as you can see, so you do need to make sure you have a space large enough to accommodate it. The full 24-strip will not fit on our little whiteboard, so I just place the ones we needed on it. You could also use this on a table instead of a magnetic board if you don’t have one. I also like how there are both the round clock faces as well as the segmented timeline to help show how time passes.

  1. I would love to win this for my son. He just isn’t grasping what 5 mins means or 1 hour, etc. I think a hands on approach to how time elapses would be perfect for helping him grasp this concept.

  2. I would love to win this! This is a wonderful tool to use with my son. As a homeschool teacher, it will help my child whom has Aplaxia of speech. It will help him understand how a clock work. He loves to use things that are hands on.
