Hi everyone, I’m excited to post my next letter, Letter C, we will be having fun with Caterpillars! We had a lot of fun with this one, hopefully you all will too ![]()
Letter C Memory Verse:
Children obey your parents in the Lord; for this is right. Ephesians 6:1
For our verses and accompanying games/stories we use the following books:
ABC Memory Verses & My ABC Bible Verses
Read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and put up the letter C on our Alphabet Tree! You can download my small alphabet letters here.
Song time:
Hide ‘Em in Your Heart Vol 1
Hide ‘Em In Your Heart Songs – Vol 2
Letter C lacing Caterpillar, you can download him here! I printed him, laminated it, cut it out and hole punched him!
Letter C Scavenger Hunt: Have your child take one of their workboxes, or a basket and fill it with objects that begin with the letter “C”.
Letter C Tracing: I laminate this then use with Expo Dry Erase Markers for pre-writing practice skills.
Caterpillar Dice Game. You can either use a number die, or a dot die. I made 2 boards also, one without numbers and one with. The one without numbers, I will have her roll the die and move that many spots. The ones with numbers I’ll have her roll the die and move to the next spot with that number on it. I got this idea from the Melissa Renfro’s Bug Race! I included small disks for game pieces, but you could also use bingo markers, beans, or whatever you have. Also, instead of using this game with dice, you can just ask questions like what does the “A” say, and if they are right they get to move one space. Its a fun way to review phonics too! You can download my Caterpillar Dice Game here!
Color matching and upper/lowercase matching caterpillar puzzles. Since the capital C and lowercase c are bascially the same, I just added them to the color puzzles. I printed it, laminted it then cut the caterpillars out then cut them in half. You can download this puzzle here!
Caterpillar magnet page. I love these magnets from Amazon, they stick well, but are not too strong, and they have a little lip that makes for easy grabbing. I use these magnets from Amazon: 100 Pcs Power Magnets. You can download the magnet page here!

Caterpillar Clip Cards: Since the pumpkin clip cards worked so well, I made some caterpillar ones as well. I got the mini-clips from Wal-mart craft section, but she also has colorful paperclips she uses as well. Really you could use anything, even bingo markers or beans, etc. Just put the correct amount on the card based on the number. You can download the caterpillar cards here!
A fun caterpillar puzzle. I laminated and cut into as many pieces as my prek can handle! You can download the caterpillar puzzle here.
A fun size sorting game, I have her put the correct size caterpillar on the game board, but you could also have them put the sizes in order from big to small, or small to big. You can download my size sorting game here!
Caterpillar pattern activity, my husband informed me that I really needed to put on another yellow caterpillar and another red one on the bottom two grids to show that the pattern repeats at that point, so I apologize, you may have to help your child with this one…I’ll do better next time LOL! For what its worth you can download it here!
I love these letter matching disks. I printed the letter template from Tot School’s blog, (she used milk bottle caps, but I didn’t have that many, so I just glued them to 1.5″ wooden disks from Michael’s.) You can download my caterpillar card here.
C Do A Dot Page: I made this worksheet to be used with Dot-A-Dot Markers, or you could also color this in, or even glue cotton balls to it! You can download it here!
Graphing cards : they cards go from 1-10. You can have your kids put bingo dots on the squares, beans, cheerios, m&ms;, whatever. I usually laminate it then have her color the boxes in with a dry erase marker. You can download the caterpillar graphing cards here!
Counting Caterpillars, Put the number cards in the box, then have them count that many caterpillars to place on the leaf. You can download it here!
Caterpillar number order! I laminated then cut out the circles, and will have her put the caterpillar pieces in numerical order. Per reader request, (I updated this file to include numbers 1-20.) You can download the caterpillar number game here!
Letter C lacing cards, I print these on cardstock then laminate for durability, then use shoe laces or yarn for lacing. You can download my A-Z Lacing cards here.
A Simple Crab Maze from Kumon’s Easy Maze book. They also have harder mazes.
Letter Collage Worksheets: The download includes letters A-Z as well as a collage idea sheet. We use the collage items as objects to decorate our letters for an alphabet book. We also color, paint, and stamp them. Since we use both upper and lowercase, I have provided both for you! Click here to download the Letter Collages:
Gigantic Floor Caterpillar: I put them all out on the floor and call out numbers and she has to hop to the correct number. You can download the Large Floor Caterpillar Circles here. I printed this on cardstock and then laminated for durability! If you prefer the traditional 1-10 rectangle cards, you can download them here.
Letter C Coloring Page: You can paint or color this with markers, crayons, colored pencils, anything you like!
Finally some literature that will be fun:
And of course we have to finish off with The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I made a fun graphing sheet that they can fill out as you read the story, you can download the graph sheet here.
I also made lacing cards for the story as well. I punched holes in all the pieces then tied a piece of yarn to the caterpillar. As you read the story they lace on the items he eats. At the end they lace on the cocoon. I have them put the whole thing in a bag that I say is the cocoon, I put it behind my back and switch the bag out for another one containing the butterfly. After we discuss what happens to the caterpillar, I give them back their bag and let them reach inside and pull out the butterfly. They LOVE this! You can download the Hungry Caterpillar cards here!
We finished up with an caterpillar craft for fun. Did you know Caterpillars have 12 eyes? We were planning on an egg carton caterpillar, but did these instead. Use large popsicle sticks and glue pom-poms to it, pipe cleaner antennae, eyes and sparkles!
We glued cotton balls onto a letter C to make it into a Caterpillar:
Family Fun Night: I’m sure for our fun food we’ll have to do something like Cookies and watch Clifford or Care Bears. I suggested Chicken and Math Circus, but that didn’t go over so well LOL!

Thank you so much for all of these amazing printables! You are saving me so much time! I've been trying to print off the caterpillar lacing card, but it keeps saying that the file is invalid….am I doing something incorrect? Thanks for your help!
Izzie: When you click on one of my download links it will bring you to the http://www.4shared.com site. Then you click the BIG BLUE button that says “Download Now”. You have to wait for the little countdown clock to get to zero and where the clock is it will turn into another link that says “Download file now”. Click that and then you should get a gray pop-up window that asks if you want to “SAVE” or “Open”. Make sure to select “SAVE” that way the file get’s saved to your computer’s hard drive. Some computers will ask you where you want to save it to , mine automatically saves it in a folder called downloads under my username, so like below: C:/documents and settings/users/Erica/documents/downloads
I was trying to get to the size sorting game with the cute small, medium, and large caterpillars, but the link says it is not valid. Please let me know if you have this somewhere else. I am really wanting to work on understanding the different sizes and this looks like such a good introduction to that process.
First of all, I ABOSLUTELY LOVE what you have done here. It is completely amazing!! I noticed when I tried to download the C Scavenger Hunt page it said that the link was broken. Any chance you could fix it?
Sorry, I fixed the link! Thanks!
Erica, thank you for sharing these wonderful ideas and your printables. They are such so gorgeous. I’m really looking forward to doing them with my three young children.
My son told me today I was the best mommy in the whole wide world (we were talking about the activities I have been doing with he and his sisters) and I ‘corrected’ him and said I was maybe one of many, as there are other mommies out there who do wonderful things for their children too. I was thinking of mums like you. What a wonderful gift your children have to have you as their mother!!

I LOVE your website! I have used many of your worksheets/crafts. You have amazing talent. Recently I have been unable to download your letters, as I have in the past. The page sends me to a page where I have to purchase a download. Is there something else I can do to download your free educational sheets?

Such awesome ideas – you are a real source of inspiration. I have 4 children boys (11, 10,8) and a little girl who just turned 4. It’s been quite challenging to go back in time and do all the “little” child activities again. I have to remind myself that though her vocabulary is of a young adult (LOL) she really needs to get down to basics. This is a lovely post thank you!
You are absolutely an amazing woman with great ideas and talent. I look forward to all your great ideas and giveaways. You are a great inspiration to my homeschooling days. Thank you!!!
