Gingerbread House, Train & Tree Oh My!
What would possess my Mom to buy 3 different Gingerbread kits this year is beyond me, but let’s just say I’m happy this one got done (and left) at HER house! This is becoming a tradition for our kids to do with Nana. Its a huge mess and I usually try to have ‘plans’ on the day they do this, but this time I bit the bullet and participated. Here we go: Getting every thing setup was the hardest part. The train’s caboose was falling apart, roofs were coming off, the tree was leaning…ah, good times, good times. (When we do this next year, we may 'pre-make’ the base shape, let it harden, then have the kids decorate.) None the less, once we got everything setup (we had to use a rubber band to hold up the house) decorating was fun…I think the we’ve been doing too much school as my 6yr old said “Do a pattern on the roof Mom” and we did…red candy, green candy, red candy, green candy, well until we ran out, then it was a free-for-all of colorey goodness. My … [Read more...]
Peppermint Bark
(Wish I could take credit for this lovely photo, its from Cathie Filian, mine are nowhere near as pretty!)Did I mention that I am NOT a baker? Every year I try though, and this year shall be no different! My husband always makes fun of me because I come up with grand plans, and think they are going to be WAY more fun than they actually turn out to be. Today, "Christmas Baking Day", was one of those days...We'll start off with a great recipe, ending in a seriously messy kitchen, that I found on My Family My Forever, called Peppermint Bark, followed by an awesome recipe called 'Reese's Fudge'. Marble in box Painting
Here's a fun marble painting craft you can do! I found the idea on Cullen's Abc's and I've seen it on a couple other blogs but don't remember where, sorry!Supplies:Poster or tempera paint PaperPainting container (gift box, shoe box, 13x9 baking dish, we used our workboxes!)Directions:Place the paint into small cups and drop a few marbles in each color. Lay the paper into the bottom of box. Place marbles from one color into the container and roll around by moving the box from side to side etc. Remove that color and continue with the other colors. We did this with candy cane coloring page. The marble idea wore off quickly, and they went for brushes and paint rollers, but it was still fun. Maybe next time we'll try several marbles just so its a tad more interesting...Once dry, we cut out the candy canes and pasted them onto construction paper. My daughter made hers into a book. … [Read more...]
