2012 Mid-Year Curriculum Changes

curriculumupdate.jpg

Hi everyone! I’ve had several questions from readers asking how our 2012 curriculum choices are going. I think one of the things I like most about homeschooling is the ability to be flexible and note when something is working well and when something isn’t working! That said in order to maintain my own sanity, and thus the sanity of those around me, I’ve decided to change the things that weren’t working. And while I hate to waste money, sanity is priceless, no?     Change Number 1: Saxon –> to Math U See I said at the start of the school year that we were trying out Saxon for the first time. Well, I have to say that Saxon just wasn’t a right fit for us!  Partly because I had a hard time adjusting to teaching it, and partly because my kids just weren’t getting how they explained certain things. I found myself pulling out our Math U See blocks and trying to re-word it for them so it made sense. The other reason I switched to Saxon was because … [Read more...]

Our Curriculum 2011-2012

school

Hi everyone! It’s that time of the year again! You know the one…when you realize that summer’s almost over and you barely remember it starting. The one where you think “Yikes! I better order my curriculum so it’s here in time!” Yep…that one. I’ve had lots of emails asking about our curriculum choices for this year already, so I know you all are planning away out there too! Of course I’m happy to share our choices with you, but I also want you to stand firm in your own choices and not beat yourself up thinking you should’ve done something else just because I or any other blogger recommends it! Each family is different, and I know you’ve prayed over your choices, just as I have, so we can take comfort in knowing that we’re being obedient to our calling! So here it is, our choices for the 2011-2012 school year! (Wow, I had a hard time typing 2012…I remember back when even the thought of the year 2000 was like back to the future hover-cars and … [Read more...]

2010-2011 Curriculum Plan

With summer almost half over, I’m getting that feeling that I should have already been working diligently on next year’s plan of attack! So, after about 4 weeks of total procrastination I think I’ve finally got a working plan. Here’s our list of curriculum choices for the upcoming 2010-2011 school year: Preschool: Since I”m not ready to launch my 4 year old into Kindergarten, we’re going to repeat our Letter of the Week curriculum, but this year we’ll be “kicking-up-a-notch”, think Emeril BAM! Of course I’ll post the printables as we go. My preschooler will also participate in the art, geography and science along with the other kiddos. Art: We’re doing a Geography based year so we’ll be using Global Art by MaryAnn F. Kohl. I’ll also finish up with last year’s I Can Do All Things and How to Teach Art to Children if we have time. Bible: I’m planning on continuing on with our Abeka Bible Series along with Nest Family Videos. Our children LOVE these … [Read more...]
