Calling All Homeschoolers!

Hello awesome readers. Today I come to you with a cry for support.

Thank you to so many of you who supported last week’s blog post about honoring copyright.

Unfortunately, this action ruffled some feathers of one of the Facebook groups in question. They’ve chosen to have their members report my Confessions of a Homeschooler Facebook account as abusive and Facebook has disabled my account in response.

Today I come to you with a cry for support to have my account reinstated. I don’t know if it will work or not, but I’m hoping if we flood Facebook with requests they may take notice. I’m currently trying to appeal to Facebook to get the account reinstated and would appreciate any support you are comfortable giving!

If you feel led to support my cause, please use hashtag:

Feel free to copy and paste any of the tweet/FB posts below, or create your own!

Please Reinstate for @ericahomeschool #WeLoveCoah

Feel free too share links to your favorite COAH printables with your followers too! Any support is appreciated!

THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for all of your support, I am so blessed to see so many people already standing up for what is right as well as helping to petition for my Facebook page already!

P.S. Make sure to check in tomorrow, I have a fun freebie for everyone!

  1. Ugh! I just saw a link from Kris @ WUHS on her FB page about one of your products….and I thought, hey, I don’t remember seeing anything from COAH from this weekend! Now I know why! I hope FB actually takes a look at your page and sees that you didn’t do anything wrong, and reinstates you tomorrow (or sooner)! Until then, enjoy your FB “vacation”. 🙂

    • I saw the link too. I think that link directs users back to COAH’s page. I really don’t know the rules and guidelines on this sort of thing, but think we should see if this is acceptable or not. Erica??

      • Kris’s link wasn’t a problem, we are allowed to link back to the original blog posts, even encouraged to do so! The link was what prompted me to think about how I hadn’t seen anything from CoaH yesterday.

  2. Having grown up in the Bay Area, I have a friend that works there. Let me see if she can look into it.

    • Thanks Elle! I would appreciate it, I can’t seem to get a hold of anyone there!

      • This is what I got back…
“OK, my colleague says that the page admin will have received messages from Facebook explaining how to follow up. My impression is that it’s just a simple counter notice procedure, but again, I know basically nothing about copyright issues”

  3. When I click on your fb link it redirects me to the my fb homepage. 🙁

    • Kathy H. says:

Same issues…I will help but not sure how to when it directs me back and if I’m doing something wrong let me know and I’ll get back on and do what needs to be done.

  4. I am so sorry. That is awful. I hope FB reinstates you very soon!

  5. I read the post in question. It’s unfortunate you’ve fallen victim to such angry, vindictive people. Violating copyright equates to plagiarism. Who would teach their child to plagiarize? No one, but when it comes to using something on ‘the sly’ it seems all right. As Christians we should have higher standards not just for our children, but for ourselves.

  6. That is awful. I so love everything you do – I’m so excited to be using your Preschool and K4 this fall and LOVE it. I appreciate all of your hard work!

  7. Lynette says:

This is horrible! I can’t believe that any homeschool group with an ounce of decency would condone or encourage such a act of cyber bullying. This just makes me sick. I really hope that Facebook realizes that your site is good and helpful and reinstate you soon. I love your blog and Facebook page!

  8. Sarah Lucas says:

Reported as abusive??!! HAHAHA I guess a page about learning the ABC’S is just TORTURE for some people!

  9. Jennifer says:

Wow this bis awful. You’ve always been so supportive.

  10. Charlotte C. says:

How sad and ugly. Shared. Hope they put your page back up soon.

  11. Melanie E. says:

I’m sorry to hear this, but posting to Facebook won’t help. People will need to contact FB directly, not just make status posts. Hope you get this straightened out soon!

  12. I’m choosing to see that God is going to use this in favor for you, Erica! Think about it – I love you, but since I’m homeschooling for the first time this year a ton of my friends haven’t heard of CoaH. They will now! So I’m sharing your ‘reinstatement’ link, praying over it as I do that God is going to use this as more publicity for your awesome ministry.

Nothing God’s hand touches returns void.

  13. Amanda C says:

The blocking is done by automated programs. There are also humans that work in this but they are not the first step. The first step for FB is to block the account. Unfair.. well yes. But that is what they do. Here is a web page with steps that you can take to get your account back.

Having people post messages will not be read by FB admins at all so I love your cheering squad but it isn’t actually going to solve anything. Only you as the owner of the page can do anything about bringing the page back. But be encouraged. This sort of things happens all the time and in the next day or so, you should be back up and running.

    • Thanks Amanda,
I actually did see that post and tried to contact the emails mentioned. I just receive an auto reply saying to check their “help” page for more info.

      • I used their feedback form to send a message asking them to reinstate your page – not sure if it will help but figured if they don’t read messages posted to FB they at least review their feedback?? So sorry this has happened to you.

        • Tiphany says:

I also sent it to their feedback instead of posting as a status.

          • Where can I find the feedback form?

          • Tiphany says:

I went to where you go to log out and there is a help option to click on. From there I went to report a problem and I sent it through both send feedback and report a problem.

          • Tiphany,
I finally figured it out and I reported it on both areas also. Hope this is getting someone’s attention.

          • Claire C says:

Erica, thank you for your great website, it has been a blessing to my family. I sent feedback to FB as soon as I read this post. So sad you were maligned.

  14. I’m speachless… sorry you are going through this. My prayers are with you, hang in there.

  15. Posted on FB! So sorry you are having to deal with this 🙁

  16. Can’t you make a new page with a different name?

  17. I am so sorry that you have been bullied in this fashion. This is a sad day when they want to take apart your hard work because they wanted to steal it. I will pray for a swift and positive resolution. I have shared your situation on Facebook, all my board, and in various private communities. I will lend any support that I can.

  18. I’m really sadden by all this! I’m sorry such a supportive, kind and generous person like you had to be taken advantage of by people with no morals and honor. It is such a shame that people like that are called homeschoolers.

I really hope Erica, as hurtful as this is that this doesn’t stop you from continuing with your support and blessing so many good homeschooling families.

    God bless you!

  19. Got your back girl! : )

  20. Oh Erica! This saddens me so much. As an HR Manager (on hiatus while I raise my 2 littles) and wife to a web design company owner, I take copyrights very seriously and it really angers me that others (especially those who call themselves Christian homeschoolers) think it’s optional and blatantly steal someone else’s hard work that they are entitled to be paid for. And $10 a unit is the best deal anywhere. Though many comments above say posting a support for you on FB won’t solve the problem, I’ve done so anyway if not to grab anyone at FB’s attention, then just for the recognition for you and to hopefully draw more of my young mom friends’ attention to your website. Please do not get discouraged, know that you have inspired so many of us to do this “homeschool thing” and you have made it easy and fun for both us teachers and the kids. My kids ask every day to “do school.” No such thing as summer break around here. Best wishes to you as you endure this trial. Many hugs and prayers to you and your family.

  21. Jessica says:

Erica, I’m so horrified for you. My heart is just breaking! Keep standing in grace and know that you are backed by a large crowd of homeschoolers that appreciate you and your amazing talents! Will be praying that this is over quickly!

  22. ~Amanda says:

I don’t know anything about this sort of thing or how to get it resolved. I have shared it. Hopefully it will get resolved quickly. It is disappointing that this has come about from others that are doing the wrong thing. 🙁 Praying that through this trial, God is glorified!

    Love your work! 🙂

  23. I hate seeing copyright infringement and have had a few people think me strange when I’ve pointed out if a program is single user license (no resale) or not to be used outside the family. People copying entire books for multiple children (which sometimes makes no sense given the cost of printing it all anyways) or so they can sell it as brand new. Hearing that your Facebook page was pulled is just awful! (tweeted for you!)

I definitely prefer to support ethical and moral individuals and will go out of my way to support them. Praying that Facebook reinstates you soon.

  24. Hopefully facebook will review your page and reinstate it for you. I’m sorry people can be so nasty.

  25. I’m so disappointed to hear about this. Happy to tweet and share, and I hope everyone’s is able to help resolve this.

  26. My husband and I decided in 2009 to close our Facebook accounts because it was just too devisive of a platform. I have read articles about vile, disgusting, pronographic FB pages being allow to stay on while good, decent, account users have been kicked off which lends its self to the question, where is Facebooks priorities? Do they not look into these matters?
Would it really hurt your business and/or blog to not be on FB? I know the good folks probably put weigh the bad but your blog has such a large following at it stands- I don’t know of a homeschooling mom in my area that doesn’t know Confessions of a Homeschooler! :0)
It’s just a thought. I personally receive your emailed blog posts and have purchased your curriculum before and love it! I constantly recommend you by word of mouth. I hope the situation gets reconciled soon.

    • I agree I don’t like FB at all and I get all post via email, FB I feel is a way that the adversary gets in your home. I am going to delete my FB right now. Thanks for the inspiration:)

    • I have to agree with you Annie, and as much as I would like to leave FB.. none of my friends will switch to Google Plus.. but I have seen pornographic images of naked women/men but I have had a picture and a video of my daughter in a long shirt and underwear(you could only see these if she jumped and her shirt when up which happened once) but it was taken down.. I re-posted them and again they were brought down and I received a message if I keep posting them back up they will take action and ban my account permanently.. I put them on Google plus and nothing happened and my family overseas got to see them.

Erica, I am soo sorry about this happening but with the way the world is these days and how people can just click and report innocent people.. I am shocked but not shocked at the same time. I am hoping they put your page back up and do the right thing.. but don’t let this bring you down.. you are an amazing person have accomplished alot of things.

  27. I’m so sorry to hear this Erica. I love your blog & am sorry that you even have to deal with people breaking copyright laws & now this… I posted to fb, but if there is anything else we can do please let us know!

  28. I am so sad to hear this 🙁 I recently deleted myself from a group that “shares” AKA STEALS!!! I shared on my FB wall, I wish I could do more!

  29. Done. Please post if there’s anything else we can do to help! I hope you have a good day, this mess aside.

  30. Erica,
I am so sorry this has happened. I wish I could help by posting to Facebook, but I don’t have an account on Facebook. Yep, you read that right, 🙂 I might be the only one in the world without an account. All I can do is pray.

    • Maggie,

You’re not alone. I don’t do facebook, either, for lots of reasons.

Erica, you are such a blessing to the homeschool community. I love your blog, and check it often. I purchased a couple of your curriculums and love them! Will be buying more for the coming year.

Hang in there. I hope and pray that your facebook issue will be resolved soon.

    • You are not alone by any means – over 160 million people in America do not have a Facebook account, and that is just in America! 😉

    • I also do not have a facebook account. I recently tried it for a whopping 3 days because our local homeschool group has a page on there and I wanted info about local events. But after a few days I realized it wasn’t worth it. I hated it, there is no privacy, there’s nothing productive to do on there, and it encourages divisive arguments on all sorts of stuff. I’m extremely active online and in various discussion forums and e-mail groups but I can do without facebook for sure.

So sorry Erica, this is a shame that people reacted so negatively. You’ve always been so generous with your time and talents, I for one have benefitted greatly from your products and blog posts!

  31. You got it Erica. Going to post this on my facebook page now and I am going to tweet it as well! Good luck and I hope you get reinstated!

  32. So sorry this happened we are all posting away and hope to see you back on soon.

  33. I am so very sorry to hear that this has happened to you. We use and love your LOTW curriculum with our 3 1/2 year old son. He looks forward to the new themes weekly and loves learning his memory verses. He is hearing impaired so we are learning them in ASL and spoken word. He is also very medically complex and we spend a lot of time each week at doctor appointments and therapies. I so appreciate all of the time and energy you have put into creating such inviting studies so that I can teach him at home while meeting his other needs and those of my family.

  34. Sabrina Diane says:

I see this too often on Facebook. They normally come back once they review it. I manage a page for my awareness work and I know it’s easy to upset some no matter how hard you try not to. Just hang in there. The majority really love what you are doing!

  35. I just cannot believe that fellow homeschoolers would do things like this. Violating copyright and online bullying are not ok and I pray that you can get this resolved quickly. I posted to facebook, but I agree with others that you are going to have to go through specific channels and you know, talk to an actual human being. Praying this gets resolved, and that whoever did this to you gets some sort of consequence for making these false accusations!

  36. Seriously? FB shut down your account but they won’t shut down Pedeophiles for Equal Rights….

  37. Andrea Gardner says:

This is ridiculous. I do not understand how people can do something completely wrong and then get vindictive once they are called out!
I am so sorry this is happening to you Erica, but I am sure it will be resolved in your favor. Anyone who reads your blog and page know you are a sweet and generous person.
I tweeted and made a status and will submit feedback to FB on your behalf.

  38. This is absolutely outrageous! I can’t imagine that this could happen?! This just seems like a sick joke, but I know Jill from Enchanted Homeschooling Mom has been talking about this “sharing group” for a while — we will get it back for you!!! xo

  39. I am disgusted by this whole thing!! I am so sorry. That link takes me to my fb homepage. I sent a report to request your account to be reinstated. I don’t know if that will help.

  40. Lisa Russell says:

    Dear Erica,
I’m very sorry that this has happened to you after the dedication and support that you have given to the homeschooling community far and wide. I support you.
    God Bless

  41. Every time I try to do anything on Facebook it redirects me to my page!! So I am taking a different approach!! I am posting this on my wall, which will lead back to your blog!! I know this isn’t how you want things to be going!! I believe God has a plan and a reason!! I think you provide an amazing service and are extremely genuine in your reasoning for sharing your love of homeschooling!! So I will choose to forego attempts to get you back on Facebook, since its not working !! But I will post as many links in as many groups to bring more followers to your blog!! Try to focus only on your blog and your readers will bring plenty more readers to your blog!! I just pray you can work on posts and fun things to help us get ready for our next school year, rapidly approaching!! I would hate to send new followers to a page though that has the Facebook stuff everywhere! I believe you need to be supported but want to support you and your ministry not feed the people who are trying to hurt you! I want others to share in posting on their Facebook pages and support what we love about Confessions of a Homeschooler!!! I plan to post later today, so I hope you have time to reconsider this post as your top blog when new people come to your blog!! I hope I don’t sound preachy, I am just looking at it from a different perspective!!!
What I plan to post: I want to share with all my friends a great resource for teaching your preschoolers as well as homeschoolers!! Erica is a great Christian mom and has amazing tips, ideas, help and support for all ages!!! Please check out her blog here

  42. MIchelle says:

Sorry Erica. You have my complete support in standing up for what is right. This is a direct attack from the enemy and so we will stand in the gap until it is restored. Press on dear sister.

  43. Sorry to hear this. Going to Facebook now to request reinstatement. You are my favorite blogger and I have learned so much about homeschooling through your blog.

  44. Katherine says:

I’m so sorry this is happening! I posted your FB post and I shared on my wall. Praying this will be resolved soon. I have been soooo blessed by your website, as I know many others have. Truth will prevail 🙂

  45. I am embarrassed that fellow homeschoolers would do something so underhanded and trashy. I have shown my support on fb because another mom who reads your blog sent out the call for help. Now when you are reinstated I can like your page and check out your stuff! Honestly, being chronically ill, I prefer the ease of reproductibles, so for primary curriculum we like like to buy workbooks from the teacher supply store, but it means we miss out on nice curriculum like yours. Those free printable sound nice though.

  46. I saw another FB go through this recently and she spent weeks trying to contact facebook to get her page reinstated. She struggled to get a live person to respond. Eventually, she discovered a backdoor route by reporting her page as hacked and asking them to allow her access back in. They unlocked her account and reinstated it automatically. It was the only way she was able to get anyone to take action with her page.

I am so sorry you are going through this. The good Lord has your back though, and will help you find a solution in His perfect timing. Remember, He is in complete control. In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled for what may well become an amazing testimony through this trial. Praise Him through the storm and have faith. *hugs*

  47. Was so sad to read your troubles.
Truth be told our family went from individual fb accounts to a shared family page.
(8 to 10 of us throughout a year. Not all of us have time.)
The whole thing with fb is turning dark. We have seriously considered dropping it because there are far better ways to keep in touch. Google? Pinterest? Direct emails?
Sad everyday you hear more stories of good wholesome folks being punished and yet evil seems to keep right on trucking along. Hang in there, we’ll keep you in our morning prayers. Also its hard to tell if fb will reinstate you or like many others you will have to start a new page. I shared your plight with my homeschooling friends. HTH’s.

  48. LynnFru says:

Any posts on FB on your behalf are being deleted. I’m so sorry and all I can do is pray for you but most importantly for those that have acted out this way…so truly sad.

This was posted on my wall this morning: “If God sends us on strong paths, we are provided strong shoes.” – Corrie ten Boom

  49. This is so crazy! Will do whatever I can to help you out! I can not believe that there are fellow homeschoolers out there that would do this to someone. What does this teach their kids? Seriously. Crazy. Hope everything gets resolved for you soon!

  50. Shared on my personal page, but for some reason it won’t let me share on my blog page! So wrong! i hope they fix it soon!
