Welcome to our final day in the 10 Days of Character Studies: Day 10. Today we’re going to talk about being selfless. Philippians 2:4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. What does selflessness mean? Showing unselfish concern for the welfare of others. Selflessness means that we act without thoughts of how we will profit or be rewarded for our actions. We choose to help others because we may identify with them, and their needs. And we choose selflessness out of obedience to what God has called us to do. What does selfishness mean? Concerned chiefly or only with yourself and your advantage to the exclusion of others. What does our verse for the week say about being selfish? I haven’t found anywhere in the Bible where selfishness is rewarded or condoned.   Welcome to 10 Days of Character Studies: Day 9! I can’t believe it’s almost over, I hope you are all enjoying the studies. I also hope they are helping you and your family develop Godly character traits! Today we’re going to be talking about self control. Ya, it’s a hard one to swallow for sure.   James 1:19-20 So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath, for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.   What is self control? Showing control or restraint of your emotions, feelings, and reactions. How can we show self control on a daily basis? For example, choosing to be kind to a sibling even if we are angry, not choosing to sin in our anger, responding to meanness with kindness, etc.   Lessons Learned: We’re going to be spending the week discussing some ways to turn from anger and wrath, and begin to use self control in our words and actions. Welcome to 10 Days of Character Studies: Day 8! Today we’re going to be talking about how to keep the peace. I had to laugh because this reminds me of one year when my kids told my husband that all mommy wanted for her birthday that year was some peace and quiet! One of my favorite verses in regards to sibling rivalry is this: 1 Peter 3:8 “Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble.” It’s another one that my kids have memorized, mostly from me repeating it constantly.   What does peace mean? An agreement or a treaty to end hostilities. A state of tranquility or quiet. What does the bible say about peace makers? "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God."   Welcome to 10 Days of Character Studies: Day 7. Today we’ll be talking about patience. Honestly I think this one is really more for me than for my kiddos! I may seem to be all together and cheery, but sadly I do lose my temper.       A verse that we’ve all memorized, and I have hanging above the door in our school room is Ephesians 4:2 “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” What does patience mean? Patience is “waiting until later for what I want now”. It is a good-natured tolerance of delay, or endurance under difficult circumstances Another word for patience is long suffering. What kind of attitude does patience ask for? God is our perfect example of this as He wants our love and affection now, but He waits patiently until we are ready to yield to Him: Peter 3:15 “And remember, the Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved. Welcome to 10 Days of Character Studies: Day 6. I hope you all had a great weekend and are ready for another full week of character studies! Today we’re going to be talking about obedience. An issue near and dear to my heart. Wouldn’t it be great if our kids just came out totally obedient with no sassy attitudes, no talking back, no dis-obedience? Ya, thought you might like that too, but it’s not exactly our reality is it?     What is Obedience? A willful submission to authority. What does willful mean? The desire to perform an act. What kind of attitude does God want from us in regards to obedience? When we’re obeying God’s Word, we do it out of desire to please God. Therefore our attitude is to be positive! Hi everyone! Welcome to the 10 Days of Character Studies: DAY 5!     Today we’re going to be talking about humility (versus shifting blame and making excuses).  It is in our human nature to protect ourselves, and really shifting blame onto others is just another form of lying.  It is dishonest and self-deceptive and it’s important to examine ourselves against God’s standard in this area.   Proverbs 28:13 Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy. Humility So what does humility mean? Humility is the quality of being humble: modest, not proud, doing something out of the goodness of your heart, not for yourself.  What does shifting blame mean? Hi everyone! Welcome to the 10 Days of Character Studies: DAY 4!     Today we’re going to be addressing what it means to be honest. This is such an important study for us to go through. Not only is honesty addressed in the 10 commandments, but it’s one of the more prevalent sins among children. Most often they’re lying to protect themselves from receiving a consequence.   Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. Honesty So what does it mean to be a honest? Not disposed to cheat or defraud; not deceptive or fraudulent, to be truthful. We’ll be going through the story of the serpent in the Garden of Eden, the story of Abimelek’s lie, Rebekah and Jacob’s lie, and the Sanhedrin producing false witness in regards to Stephen. Hi everyone! Welcome to the 10 Days of Character Studies: DAY 3!     Today we’re going to be addressing what it means to be a good steward. This is a great study for my kids in particular! Our family has been so blessed and it is easy for all of us to take our lifestyle for granted. In this study we will address the ways that God has blessed us, and how we can be good stewards of those things as well as how we can turn that around and bless others.   Good Steward So what does it mean to be a good steward? The good steward is someone who is doing the best he can with the things that God has given him. The meaning involves how the precious gifts that God has given to all are used and cared for.   Hi everyone! Welcome to the 10 Days of Character Studies: DAY 2!     Today we’re going to be addressing the character trait called “gentleness”. This is one of my favorites and also one of the harder ones for me in particular. I tend be a little more {uhem} “blunt” in my delivery, and I realize now that my kids respond so much better when I’m addressing them in a gentle manner!   Gentleness   Click to download: A Character study: Gentleness So what is Gentleness? Gentleness means to be kind, not harsh or severe, but mild and soft. As a matter of fact God is kind enough to tell us exactly what His definition of gentleness is in His Word. Hi everyone! Welcome to the 10 Days of Character Studies: DAY 1!     Last year I participated in the Heart of the Matter 10 Days of Homeschooling Blog Hop and I did a series called 10 Days of Homeschool Enrichment.
