All About Reading 3 Review

029web.jpg

Hi everyone! I had so much fun offering a giveaway for the newly released All About Reading Level 3 curriculum. But now I want to take a few minutes to review it a bit for those of you with questions. {Disclosure: I am an affiliate with All About Learning Press because I love their products! Links contained in this post are affiliate links.}   All About Reading Level 3 is great for teaching not only reading skills, but also phonics, phonograms, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and decoding multi-syllable words. If you’ve already been using All About Reading Levels 1 or 2, you already know that this is a fun hands-on program! I think Tinker Bell’s favorite thing are the fun activity sheets included in the Student Activity Pack. She actually asks to do these fun sheets all the time! And I figure if a kid is asking to learn it’s a good thing.   What comes with the curriculum? As I mentioned in my last post, the set comes with a Teacher’s Manual, phonogram … [Read more...]

Homeschool Reading and Phonics Curriculum Forum

reading.jpg

Hi everyone! Welcome to the homeschool curriculum forum post series! Today we’re discussing reading and phonics. Since my children will be in grades prek, 2nd, 4th, and 5th this post will be geared towards elementary students. However feel free to leave a comment for whatever ages you are working with as I know it will help other homeschoolers out there!   For the early years I like to stick with basics and use Abeka for phonics and language practice. I prefer the more traditional approach to teaching letter sounds and blends as well as the reinforcing worksheets provided by Abeka.     I also like the various readers that come with the program as well as the comprehension questions after each story. You’ll want to make sure to get the “text questions and answers key” for the readers. I also like the “Read & Think” skill sheets that Abeka has starting in grade 3. They are timed reading exercises with comprehension questions at the end. … [Read more...]

Homeschool Reading Incentives!

IMG_7685web.jpg

I found this super cute idea to help with motivating students to read more on the Teacher Wife’s blog which lead me down a bunny trail of great ideas to help motivate students to read! I know homeschoolers are supposed to be book worms, but my kiddos aren’t always that interested in reading outside of class time. But with these cute reading incentive brag tags and some cheap beads…problem solved at the Confessions home!   I immediately visited ImageStuff and ordered a variety of reading incentive brag tags! (Select “reading” from the drop down menu.) I set up our bulletin board right away, and shared all of our new exciting reading rewards with the kiddos! By the way, I emailed them and they’re working on a more homeschooling friendly packet of tags! Yipee!! And don’t tell anyone, but I’m pretty sure we’ll be doing a giveaway for these later on too!   For every 20 minutes of reading time, my children earn 1 bead. For every 10 beads they earn, then can … [Read more...]

I absolutely love how they script the lessons, as well as the constant review. I think it’s the only program that has had success in getting my kids to actually remember phonics rules! They teach reading concepts in a logical order, and review constantly so that you aren’t forgetting things as you go. I also like that the program is hands-on as well. All About Reading Level 1 Review

AAR-L1-wDeluxe_250_thumb.jpg

Hi everyone, as promised, I have a review of the new All About Reading Level 1 program for you! We are totally loving this program, and it’s no surprise really since we absolutely adore All About Spelling! I already started Tinkerbell with All About Spelling Level 1 at the beginning of this year, so she was able to skip ahead a few lessons in the All About Reading Level 1 program, but I still like how the two compliment each other. The Level 1 of both AAS and AAR have a similar scope and sequence. All About Reading focuses on decoding skills, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and will include lots and lots of reading practice. All About Spelling focuses on the spelling side of things like how to know which letter to choose for a given sound. Both are complete phonics programs and use the same letter tiles which make them easy to use together. We also love the workbook activities, the pages are hands-on and interactive which makes the learning more fun! All About Reading also … [Read more...]
